Fountain Green Energy, together with our valued client New Horizons Energy (Pty) Ltd, are proud to announce the launch of Africa’s first ever Waste-to-Energy project of its kind.

Athlone, Cape Town, 25 January 2017. Today brings an exciting new chapter for FGE with the launch of the first anaerobic digestion plant in Africa for the production of biomethane from Municipal Solid Wast (MSW). Having been awarded the contract in July 2015 by New Horizons Energy (Pty) Ltd, FGE and its parent company FCE have been responsible for the design, construction, erection and installation and commissioning of the plant as well as the subsequent operation and maintenance.

Using the organic fraction of Municipal Solid Waste (MSW) to feed the digester, the plant will produce 1250 Nm3/h of biogas from 550 tons/day MSW and the biogas will be processed into biomethane as an CNG fuel replacement, and beverage grade carbon dioxide.

Fountain Green Energy (FGE) is a division of Fountain Civil Engineering (Pty) Ltd (FCE) and specializes in anaerobic digestion, biogas to electricity and biogas upgrading for the production of biomethane and carbon dioxide.

Being the EPC contractor for the plant, this is not only a major success for FGE but also for the future of Waste-to Energy projects in South Africa and Africa.
